15. J.Q. Adams- Sectionalism
The actual definition of sectionalism is an exaggerated devotion to the interests of a region. The problem with sectionalism began when Missouri wanted to become a state. The main problem of that was that they wanted to become a slave state. Before their request the slave states and non-slave states were even but if Missouri would be a state it would become uneven, this upset a lot of people. The request also upset the balance of power in the US Congress between states.
The only people that were really involved in sectionalism were the north states and the South states. They had many conflicts because they didn’t agree with each other most of the time. The North relied on industry more while the south relied on agriculture more. Some of the jobs in the North were manufacturing, shipping, and trading goods, while the South picked crops and planted crops. The South depended on slaves to do work and the North did not mind not having them.
Sectionalism obviously took place in the US. All the states were involved. To be specific the north and south states were involved. These events took place in the 1820s. The whole entire United States was involved in the Civil War though, which was a result of the conflicts between the states.
All the fights about sectionalism eventually led to a big war, which we know now as the Civil War. The civil War impacted America by ending slavery but it eventually came back I little in the 20th century. During the Civil War approximately 620,000 people died just to settle conflicts between states. The war basically fought between the North states versus the South states. All of the states eventually got better and made up and then became what we now know as the United States.
The Civil War has almost nothing to do with Europe. The only small problem was that the supplies that they received from America weren’t being given to them during the war. Not getting the supplies barely caused any problems for Europe. The main thing that America supplied for Europe was cotton, which didn’t both Europe much.

16. J.Q. Adams- Corrupt Bargain and the Election of 1824

The Corrupt Bargain and The Election of 1824

By: Dean Kostorowski

The election of 1824 was the first election that no one got enough electoral votes to win. The election was between Andrew Jackson, John Quincy Adams, William Crawford, and Henry Clay. This event took place in the United States. This event impacted the U.S. because it was an election that was unfair and the person who had the second amount of popular and electoral votes won. This impacted Europe so that they would know an example of what could happen if they had a tie.
Andrew Jackson called the election of 1824 the “Corrupt Bargain” because he lost unfairly. There were four candidates to start with, but when no one won only the top three had the chance to become president. The top three were Andrew Jackson, John Q. Adams, and William Crawford, one of them would become president. This took place in the United States. The House of Representatives voted there. This event made some of the Americans mad and some spilt off of the Republican Party and went with Jackson to make a new party. This showed Europe that if something were to happen to them it could make their country a lot different.
The Corrupt Bargain then became between two candidates Andrew Jackson and John Q. Adams. William Crawford was very ill which took him out of the race making it Adams vs. Jackson. This event also took place in the United States. The impact this had on the U.S. was that it was the first election that no one won. Also it was unfair. This could impact Europe by them knowing to make the government fair.
Jackson lost the election of 1824 when he had the most votes. Jackson had 43% popular vote and Adams only had 30%. This took place in the United States by the voters. This effect the U.S. because this Jackson lost in the election and he should of won because he had thousands of more popular votes. This could affect Europe because they would know they need to make the government fair.
Jackson did not only have more popular votes he had more electoral votes too. Jackson had 99 electoral votes and Adams had 84 electoral votes. This took place in the United States by the Electoral College. This affected the U.S. because it was the first election that the person with the most electoral votes did not win. This could affect Europe by them knowing what could happen in an election.

17. Jackson- Spoils System-tyler battaglia

The topic I am talking about is the spoils system. The spoils system was a system where when president who won a election, they reward their political supporters. The spoils system was used mainly by Andrew Jackson to replace government officials with people who would support him in making decisions. This was a bad idea because if the political supporters weren’t qualified it didn’t matter, if they were supporters they got the job. This was a big thing with Andrew Jackson. When he won the election and he rewarded his political supporters with government-leveled jobs when these people were not even close to qualified to fill these positions.

This was used very much by andrew jackson. He rewarded his political supporters to fill positions where they will help make decisions. this was bad because it caused unqualified people to make big decisions. Some examples of a bad decision would be if like the un-qualified people were asked to print 2000000 billion dollars and they said yes but they wouldnt have enough to back it up with gold so that would cause the dollar wortings to go way down!!

This had a great impact on the US because it cause the people that were rewarded with government jobs were usually not qualified made some bad decisions about the government so it affected all Americans. as discused before they might make a stupid decision. this was like sending a guy to college to be a doctor than after he finishes tell him to be a military owner. this would cause them to do something they know nothing about. and they can cause many men to die and its not their fault.

This could have affected Europe because these people were not qualified to make decisions and they might have made a decision to cut off Europe of trade and not let them ship goods so therefore the Europeans would lose a lot of money. than they would not have goods for their people and the aftermath of that would be bad. as a result their people can starve than go poor. and if their people go poor that they cant pay debts and things they owe. so in the longrun the government doesnt get the money that they are suppose to recieve. www.whitehouse.gov/about/presidents/**andrewjackson**

18. Jackson- States Rights
The protective tariff was a problem and Jackson had to tell South Carolina. The protective tariff was put on Britain to protect American goods. Jackson wanted to claim the protective tariff unconstitutional. South Carolina protected the protective tariff with the ordinance nullification.
There were a lot of people involved in this event. Some of the main people involved were Andrew Jackson, John C. Calhoun, and Henry Clay. At the time Andrew Jackson was the president of the United States, John C. Calhoun was the governor of South Carolina and Henry Clay was the great compromiser. The great compromiser meant that Henry Clay made a lot of compromises between two situations. Also the North and South states were involved a little.
This event took place in South Carolina. In South Carolina president Andrew Jackson declared this tariff unconstitutional. Nullification was in all of the Southern states. South Carolina was the first Southern state to have nullification. Nullification was the right to claim something unconstitutional.
One of the long term impacts was that South Carolina was in an economic downturn. This means that the southern states were a lot poorer than they were before. Since there was a ban on trade the southern states couldn't get the supplies or food that they needed, they didn't have any more to buy food or supplies. This also means that the southern states can not give other countries supplies they need to survive either.
. This event also impacted Europe a lot. The southern states were not aloud to trade with Europe anymore. The southern states needed what Europe had and Europe needed what the southern states had. The southern states didn't have any of Europe's goods that they needed to survive. That also means that Europe didn't have any of the southern states goods that they needed to survive

19. Jackson- Native Americans(Native American Removal Act) Evan Davis
Indian Removal Act

1. The Indian Removal Act authorized the president to grant unsettled lands west of the Mississippi in exchange for Indians within existing state borders. A few tribes went peacefully, but others didn’t. in the fall and winter of 1838 and 1839, the Cherokees were forcibly moved west by the U.S. Approximately 4,000 Cherokees died and they named it The Trail Of Tears.

2. The Removal Act was strongly supported by the south. States were eager to gain access to lands inhabited by the Five Civilized Tribes. Georgia the largest state at the time, was involved in a contentious Jurisdictional dispute with the Cherokee nation. President Jackson hoped removal would resolve the Georgia crisis.

3. The Indian Removal was one of the pacts that sent the Indians westward. With the increasing numbers of settlers from Europe. And else were as well as the growing native white population pushing ever more west ward into the Americas. The Indian Removal was done in the best interests of the Indians as the white men figured it.

4. The long term affect that the Indian Removal Act had on the United States was that the forcibly moved people out of their land. And the U.S. gained land. Also the removal resolved the Georgia crisis. And the act authorized the president to grant unsettled lands to the west of the Mississippi.

5. The act affected Europe because Europe got an increasing number of settlers. Other than that there was no affect.
